Monday Made It

Hi there!
Happy Monday!
Today my alarm went off at 6:00 a.m. and let me just say, it was rough! I get up between 5 and 5:30 during the school year but I'm not quite ready to start that schedule again. I had a professional development class for the first half of the day. Afterwards I went to work in my room, but it seems like I just didn't get enough done. OH well!
So today I am linking up with Tara from Fourth Grade Frolics for her Monday Made It linky!

To be honest, I've been focusing more on the "make'it's" for my house because once school starts all my home projects seem to go on hold.
Okay, here we go!

I found these darling frames at Michael's this week for $2.00  a piece! These will serve as our table signs this year. I will change the shapes out later in the year.
I know I've been working on these forever but I finally have my dining chairs finished! I chose an aqua color and used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Here is the finished product with the table that I painted in early July!

I've been looking for a coffee table for quite some time and haven't really been able to find what I'm looking for. I LOVE the "farmhouse" look. White legs and a nice wood top. We went to an auction last weekend for my friend's father. My dear friend lost her mother when she was 13 and lost her father this February. He passed away while visiting her in Africa while she was doing mission work. She has spent a lot of time in Africa teaching the people of Mozambique how to grow their own foods, and her father wanted to be a part of it. Although his death was sudden, we are all grateful for the time that he was able to spend there with her. The auction was one of the last things that had to be taken care of. I bought this because this family has been a huge part of my life and I love them dearly. I love thinking that I can have a part of them with me in my home. I've decided that I am going to give this table a farmhouse look. I'm not finished but so far I've sanded the top and painted one coat of chalk paint on the legs.

Yesterday my hubs and dad worked on putting up our kitchen backsplash!

This picture was last night!
We just started grouting tonight! More pictures to come soon! :)

Wish us luck as we finish grouting! Have a great week!!

Five for Friday!

Happy Friday! Where has this week gone?! I swear it was just Monday! I don't know about you all but I have been in back to school mode. All of a sudden I feel like time has run out and I still have so much to do! Today, I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday linky! This week was a busy/productive week! Here is a recap :)

So first and foremost I started this book last night!

I'm on chapter 6 right now and let me just say that I've laughed, I've cried, I've questioned every aspect of my teaching! Talk about inspiring! I am so hubs had to pull me away from the book twice already...since last night people!!! Seriously, if you don't have this book, you need to get it. I am already feeling so rejuvenated and inspired to go back to school and make a difference. Ahh I mean we really do have the best jobs ever! :)  At the rate I'm going I will probably finish it Sunday!

I've been working like crazy to get things finished and ready for the school year. I finished my August/September Writing Stations AND it is on sale until tomorrow! All you need to do it print, cut and laminate! It's ready to go :) Sooo happy it's done!
Click on the image to go to my TPT store!

I shopped this week.... and yes I was the crazy woman in Wal-Mart that went through every box of composition notebooks so that I could find the neon ones. Totally worth the half hour :)
Plus, they were $.50  a piece and there was NO LIMIT!!

I also had some shopping success at Michael's. I found these adorable frames that I am going to use for my table signs. They had them in lots of different colors. I chose black because my caddies are bright colors. I thought it would be a nice contrast! They were only $2.00!!

Cute, cute, cute!!

Lastly, I received my second Stitch Fix this week!!
Let me tell you all about Stitch Fix! It is an online personal styling service. When you sign up, you fill out a brief survey that acquires your sizes, styles you prefer and items that you would like to avoid. You can also link your Pinterest styleboard to give your stylist more info! So then, for a $20 styling fee, a personal stylist will select 5 pieces for you!

Next, the items are delivered to your door for FREE. The best part is that you try all the items on in the comfort of your own home. You can pair the pieces you receive with items you already have in your closet, along with your own accessories! Keep the items you want, and simply send the others back in the pre-addressed envelope. By the way.....returns are FREE! You are only billed for the pieces that you keep. The $20 styling fee is applied to the items you keep!

Now, lets get to this month's fix!

First up was this darling coral top! I LOVED the color! Unfortunately, it was a little too boxy for me and went back.
The necklace was my next piece. I decided to keep it :) It was just too cute!!

I LOVED this dress! ThE cut was flattering and it was just my style. I was devastated to learn that it was too big. So, so, sad because this really is an "Amber" dress! Had to send it back :(

This tank was super cute! I have a short torso though so it was too long for my figure. It went back.

This was my last piece in this month's fix. I didn't love this dress when I pulled it out of the box but knew I needed to go ahead and try it on. I didn't love it when I put it on either. NOT. FLATTERING. AT. ALL.

Overall, I liked most of the pieces in my fix this month but the cuts/fit were not good for me. I've heard that it takes a few rounds for them to really get your size so I'm going to continue getting a monthly fix.
Plus, I've added 2 darling necklaces to wardrobe!

You can read about my first Stitch Fix Here. If you are thinking about trying stitch fix, I would love for you to sign up using my referral link!

Have a fabulous weekend!!

The Quiet Book!

Happy Tuesday!
I'm having a hard time believing that it's the end of July! I have been loooooving my summer days but I am excited to meet my new bunch of kinders too! Today I am linking up with Deanna Jump for her Lets Talk About Books linky.

My wishlist has become quite substantial as I've listened to the suggestions of so many wonderful teachers! Any who, the book I'm sharing today is........

The Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood.

The story is about different types of quiet. The darling animals illustrate the different types of quiet that happen throughout the day. This story is wonderful for a few reasons.

1. It's a great way to talk about the different emotions behind being "quiet" (perhaps someone is lonely, sad, busy, working, trying to surprise someone).

2. The story encourages students to think about the times that they are quiet and can lead into a discussion about quiet times at school (which my kinder darlings need sooo bad at the beginning of the year!)

3. The illustrations are way too cute!

I mean seriously, just adorbs!
I'm off to see all the other books in the link up! You can check them out here!
Have a wonderful week!

Wordless Wednesday- HAPPY!

Happy Wednesday!
Today I am linking up with Miss DeCarbo at Second Grade Sugar and Spice for her Wordless Wednesday linky party.

This week my hubs and I checked out the Columbus Arts and Vintage Marketplace at the Aladdin Shrine Center at Easton. I just wanted to poke around and see if there were any must-haves for the house. My favorite booth of course was Feather Your Nest (a local boutique in downtown Pickerington). My lovely friend's mom is the owner and she  has the most darling/unique home decor items! I scooped up this cute little sign for my house because it says "The Masters" all over it! We are HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!
Isn't life so much better when we're happy?!

This sign reminds me to reflect on the things that make me the happiest.
 My top 3 HAPPY'S are:

1.Spending quality time with friends and family
                                                      2. Working with my sweet kinders  (oh how I miss them so!)
                                                      3. Coffee (obviously.)

What three things make you the happiest?!
Enjoy your Wednesday and BE HAPPY!

Monday Made It 7/14/14

I cannot believe we are halfway through July! This summer is flying by, and I have to admit.....I'm ready to start with my new bunch (bunches) of baby kinders! They really seem so small at the beginning of the year. I've been doing lots of things to get ready for the beginning of the year, but have also been trying to make the most of my last few weeks of summer! Today I am linking up again with Tara from  4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made It linky party! This linky has been so much fun this summer!
So for a couple of years I have been wanting to revamp the sheet we send home when students move to "yellow". We use a color system at our school that looks something like this:

          1. Purple: Wow (students who go above and beyond)
          2. Green: Great Choices
          3. Yellow: Warning
          4. Blue: Lose an activity/recess
          5. Red: Call home
My students hardly ever move to blue or red as they are for more "severe/defiant" behaviors. When students move to blue or red a Behavior Referral Form is sent home to parents and the principal is involved.

I do have students who occasionally move to yellow. We all have bad days and sometimes students make an "Oops" (too much talking, not following directions, multiple reminders, off-task, etc).
IT'S OKAY!!!!!!
Let's just make it a teachable moment and help the student make a better choice the next time!! We currently have a sheet that we send home to parents when students move to yellow. Unfortunately, the sheet is not kid friendly, and it focuses more on the negative behavior rather than the teaching point that can surface. Students need to reflect on their choices and understand why something is not appropriate. It is important for them to have these discussions at home and at school. So here is the new sheet I made, that I will be using in my classroom this year. The students fill the majority of the sheet out on their own. There is a small area for teacher comments to further explain the situation. Students will write/draw about the choices they made that caused them to move to yellow. At home students will discuss their choices with their parents and write/draw a better choice.  I'm really excited to use this in my room and think it will help my students take ownership for their actions.

Do you use anything like this at your school? Let me know your thoughts!

Last week I posted about my ideas to create a display for student work in my hallway. My goal is for every student to always have a piece of their best work displayed in the hallway. Each student will have their own clip and can change out their "best pieces" as they see fit. I think this will encourage my students to do "quality" work! I've been playing around a bit at my house but think it will look something like this. I  think I will use the aqua paper to spell out "WOW work".

The pink background is smart-fab. It's a mixture between paper and fabric. I'm excited to use it and think that I will be able to use it year after year.  Have any of you used this?!

I finished my name banner!! Loooving the bright colors!

This summer I took on my first painting project! I painted my kitchen table, which I LOVE. I was planning on just getting new chairs to go with it. I was thinking some cute, upholstered ones. But now, I'm thinking....should I just abandon the ugly wood chairs? OR try painting them a fun, accent color. My conclusion....
What's the harm in trying to paint them first?
I may end up loving them!
and if it's a big fail......
I can just buy new ones!

What color do you think?! I'm thinking an aqua or a coral!

Coral Reef

One of my favorite things about summer is getting letters from my students! If they write me, then I write them back! Today, I'm writing a letter back to Brynna!

Have a fabulous week!!!
