Book Talk 8/26 Wigglebottom Style

Hi there!
Today I am linking up with Mrs. Jump's Class for her Tuesday Book Talk linky!

We are in our third week of school (second full week) and my kinders are finally starting to catch on! They know their morning routine which has made my life so much easier first thing. We've also started workstations and are still learning and practicing the expectations during station time. Like everyone else at the beginning of the year we've been spending a ton of time talking about listening. I LOVE the Howard B. Wigglebottom stories! We read Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen by Howard Binkow to start our discussion on listening.

The story is about a bunny named Howard that has trouble listening.

His friends and teacher try to tell Howard important things but he never seems to listen.

That is until his teacher puts him in time-out to think about his choices.

Howard reflects on his day and has a realization about listening!

AND he gets a gold star for becoming a great listener!!!

This website has all of the books in animated versions for your students and it reads it to them!! We watched in on the Smart Board!  My kinders LOVED this! Plus there are some fun activities that you can use for extension activities! Click here to go to the website!
After reading to story a couple of times we put together this chart to remind us how to be good listeners like Howard!!

I hope your school year is off to a great start! Have a fabulous week! :)

Sooooo TIRED!

Hi there!
Happy Tuesday!
This our second week back in school and I am not back into my old routine. I am struggling! Last night I collapsed on the couch at 8 P.M. and it was Monday. Yikes! It could be a long week. Obviously, I am loving my new groups of kinders but there is just so much to teach! I cannot wait until they are trained and know all of the expectations! Any who, TPT is having another big sale TOMORROW for the people who are starting school a bit later in August and September. Be sure to stock up on everything tomorrow. I wanted to take the time to share a fabulous product from my friend Ashley at One Sharp Bunch! First and foremost, Ashley is fabulous! She has so many great ideas! Five for Friday/Saturday! 8/16/14

OH.MY.WORD. We started school this week and I don't think I've ever been so tired...well maybe last year at this time! I feel like I've been doing nothing but modeling this week. Sooooooooooo much modeling!! It will all be worth it when they're independent in a few weeks!  Any who, I missed Five for Friday with Doddle Bugs Teaching last night because I just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer, so I'm linking up just a little late :)

In addition to it being the first week of school, my Corbin and I celebrated our anniversary on August 14th. I can't believe it has been 4 years (we've been together for 11)! He truly is my best friend and my biggest supporter. I'm a lucky lady :)

My wonderful husband picked the best time of year to start ripping up our flooring.....NOT! We currently have plywood sub floor all through our kitchen! NO BIG DEAL :)

Seriously, I shouldn't complain. I thought he was going to break his back getting the layers of linoleum off. Bless his heart, he's a keeper. I MUST stop complaining!

We have our new floors! But it's probably going to take a long while to get them in! We carried in 111 boxes last night! I am crazy sore but super excited that they are here!!

Awhile back  I posted the note I am going to send home when my students move to yellow. I thought it was really important that parents understand that we want to make it a teachable moment and that students need to reflect on their actions. The other teachers at my school thought the same thing, but didn't really think the "oops" note was appropriate for the upper elementary grades. So, I talked with them and created one that is a little different for the older students but still focuses on the reflection piece.

On the second day of kindergarten we read Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes .

I LOVE Pete and so do all of my kids! We read the book, rocked out to the song and went on a tour of our school. I taught them how to use clipboards and we used these checklists during our tour. The kids loved this!  They felt so "official" walking through the hallways, holding their clipboards and doing real school work!

Have a fabulous week! :)

Monday Made It 8/4/14

It is officially my last week of summer, and guess where I'll be ALL week?
Yep, you guessed it, school.
My room is SLOWLY coming together.
For some reason I feel the need to reorganize EVERYTHING, every year.
I really don't know. But let me tell you, my cabinets look good! :)
Today, I am linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made It linky.

Lets get to it!

So I have an  u.g.l.y. filing cabinet in my room. I decided to get some colored contact paper and border to cheer it up a bit! I am happy with how it turned out. I like to use the sides of filing cabinets since they are magnetic. Now it's cute too.
Mission accomplished.

Next up was my GIANT white board easel. I thought about getting rid of this since I have a Smartboard but I was afraid I would miss it too much. When I say it's GIANT, I really mean it. This thing is huge and awkward, but it's what I have to work with. I decided to "cute-ify" it too. I LOVE me some washi tape. I mean I feel like it's a sickness. I've been putting it on everything. I can't stop!

Here I go with the washi tape again. My frame from the past two years was starting to bust and I was ready for a new, fresh to-do list! So, I put washi tape all around my frame and created a new to-do list that coordinates with my blog design :)

I love coffee. It makes me smile. So, there are coffee cups!
If you're a coffee lover too, you can find it here!
I posted this pic last week on my instagram (@mrsmasterskinderlove), and got a ton of positive feedback. So...I thought I would share it one more time! My writing station is set up for the beginning of the year!

The black and white chevron is just ribbon. I used thumb tacks to secure it to the bulletin board behind the border! I am happy to say that it is very secure! And obviously I put washi tape on the clothespins.

You can find this writing station here. It is on sale through tomorrow for the BIG TPT sale!!!!

I have a couple other months posted in my TPT store but they will receive a major overhaul and coordinate with this set. October is almost finished!!

Okay, this is the LAST time I will ever bring up washi tape......for today. Again, I just love this stuff. I used it to cover up the silverish frame of my bulletin board and it just screams cuteness!

Last thing! My September Math Stations are finished! Check them out here

Busy, busy week!
Excited, and nervous to meet my new darlings next week! Eek!
I hope you have a wonderful week! :)
